I love seeing movie posters that work together and separately. And I love a good dose of nostalgia. I just love these.

Frank Gehry has created this poster for the Grammy Awards. Yes. That Frank Gehry. The Architect. Yes, there’s no designer Frank Gehry, you were not mistaken.

And yes, those are models of Gehry’s buildings in the background. What do they have to do with the Grammy’s? I have no idea. No one really seems to know. Heck, even Gehry’s own words don’t even open a glimpse into what he was thinking when he made a poster featuring architecture for a music awards show.

I have been fortunate to have worked with and become friends with some of the top musicians in classical music…they are my inspiration and my heroes. I am pleased to work with the Grammy’s to help celebrate all of these talented people.

The design of the Olympic Games is always gorgeous and heavily publicized, but I honestly could not tell you about a single brand element of any Paralympic Games. McCann Worldgroup (with illustrations by HelloVon) has created something modern, striking, energetic and memorable for the 2012 Paralympic Games with bold typography, inspiring copy, and great imagery. Now I can finally say that I remember a design for this wonderful event.

As someone said in the comments: I really just want to hold this in my hands. This is not something that can be taken in fully on a screen, no matter how clearly it’s photographed and no matter how large the picture is.

This gorgeous poster is for the Greenwood Space Travel Supply Company, which, yes, is another one of those companies that donates their profits to 826, an organization which tutors youngsters in reading and writing. You’ve seen products for the organization before; the stuff sold for 826 are cute, well-designed, gimmicky products with pirate or superhero themes. We now dive into space with this absolutely incredible poster, complete with nostalgic advertisements like “How to Build Your Own Black Hole Kit.”

Purchase the Spencer Charles designed piece for $12 here.

(Yes, I did post this today because a big chunk of metal out in space is supposed to be re-entering our atmosphere. I like my posts to be related to what’s happening in the world, all right?)

You really can’t find better posters for your home office. I know this school of thought is why I went into design, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Design is a passion.

(My only wish is that they came in a different color; I JUST designated my bathroom to be the black and white room in the house!)

Buy for $40 from Coni Lab

Designer of the Week: Invisible Creature

I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve ever featured Invisible Creature. I can’t believe I hadn’t ever done that before. I love their style and have for quite some time. It’s always breathtaking.

Many of today’s rich and famous think they’re big and bad. Sure, by today’s standards, they are a bit rebellious. However, they’re apparently nothing compared to those important figures from our past, as evidenced for this poster series by Jenny Burrows and Matt Kappler. It’s a great way to make museums appeal to a younger crowd.
