Video of the Week: Punga’s advertisement for FOX Retro
While we’re on the topic of awesome 80s pixelated graphics, how about a nice commercial for FOX’s home for TV shows from decades past?

Prepare to lose hours out of your Sunday: IFC has released their list of the 50 Greatest Opening Title Sequences of All Time. You didn’t want to do anything productive on Sunday anyway, did you?
(My personal favorites: Fahrenheit 451, Blast of Silence, Snatch, Seconds, Delicatessen)
Ever since I learned about Saul Bass and his mastery of the movie title sequences, I’ve always kept my eye out for interesting movie titles. While not often treated as such, they can be a beautiful art. The Movie Title Stills Collection just offers us the title shot, the end shot, and maybe some stills from trailers, but the typography is inspiring. This makes me want to more care taken in today’s titles.
Early Video of the Week: The Making of Tron: Legacy HD
I’m putting this up early because I bet it gets pulled soon. Yesterday this video was posted to Vimeo but was changed to a password protected version a couple hours later. I bet part of the reason it was pulled is that the video does contain a fair share of spoilers, so don’t watch the video if you don’t want to know some of the key lines and see some of the major battles.
This movie is insanely gorgeous and has some of the greatest CGI I’ve ever seen. This video, released by visual effects kings Digital Domain, shows you how the graphics were created. You get to see some green screen, you get to see some landscape creation…but the coolest part is how two people (one of them being a 61-year-old Jeff Bridges) becomes a singular 35-year-old program named Clu.
(I know, I know! I’ve done a lot of Tron posts!)
Graphics were a lot different 30 years ago, kids, and here’s some proof: a YouTube playlist of advertisements, video games, TV intros, and music videos from the early 80s. It’s always good to see how far we’ve come, right?
